LEED is no-go for some - A MUST for others

LEED Certification has been gaining appeal to many homeowners and commercial building owners; but a recent article exposes that that Twin Cities municipalities are hesitant to take on the price tag of LEED consulting fees. The LEED Certification process is a very detailed examination of a new or existing buildings functions and, as an outcome, rates the building's energy efficiency and environmental design - to the tune of $20K - $100+ in fees beyond the improvement upgrades. At this price it is no wonder that Cities are willing to take on the conservation strategies, but forgo the actual cost of USGBC's certification.

West Coast Requirement - Commercial Building Energy Audit

The city of San Francisco now requires commercial buildings of at least 10,000 sf to conduct an energy audit every five years and benchmark the energy performance annually under an ordinance adopted this week.
