LEED Certification has been gaining appeal to many homeowners and commercial building owners; but a recent article exposes that that Twin Cities municipalities are hesitant to take on the price tag of LEED consulting fees. The LEED Certification process is a very detailed examination of a new or existing buildings functions and, as an outcome, rates the building's energy efficiency and environmental design - to the tune of $20K - $100+ in fees beyond the improvement upgrades. At this price it is no wonder that Cities are willing to take on the conservation strategies, but forgo the actual cost of USGBC's certification.
